Sums

by Linda McCarthy

The boys and girls were running around
Inside the school playground
With cars coming round
In time to hear the first bell sound
The children quickly went inside
And heard the teacher say:
"Please get out your copy books
We'll study sums today."

"I told you some things yesterday
And now I'll tell you more:
Let's start with two and two.
Two and two equals four
Tomorrow I shall bring to you a
A special tables chart
And you must all remember them
And learn them off by heart

Tommy sat up in his seat
His hand waving high
"What do you want?" the teacher asked
Said Tommy in reply:
"You're two and two cannot be four
Oh no, they just can't be,
'Cos yesterday you told us four
Was made from one and three."
