The Space We Share

by Aoife Collins

Slamming the door in the face of adolescence
Hot, angry tears sting my eyes.
Once more, consumed with frustration and fury
I hunger for the days when I, alone
Will grapple with what my world presents !
Limited no longer by household rules and regulations
I will learn to live....

The bedroom door opens slowly,
My mother taking me in her arms softly whispers
'You know, I was seventeen once"
Secretly, I vow to relive this moment again and again.
